A: Who is the most powerful person on the planet?
B: A policeman.
A: How so?
B: Because he can stop traffic with one hand.
Classic. And yet, for us, traffic policemen are just another part of the system that we have to bear, a corrupt system at that, and hence, probably part of the problem. And so, we barely pay attention to them.
So much so that *smack!* – this morning, one uncle, in a hurry to “make” the signal did not see the poor policeman standing in the middle of the road, in this really hot weather, directing the traffic.
Oops. It would seem a policeman’s power is dependent on the propensity of the drivers to obey the law as well as use their eyes and ears.
The Fray ask: “Where did I go wrong?”
Just take a minute to think on the following three simple steps.
1. Don’t speed up if the light changes from green to yellow. It’s okay to wait one more minute.
2. Use your car’s indicators when turning. You’ve already paid for them, might as well use them.
3. Don’t overtake just because you get an ego boost from being one car ahead.
That life you save? Yeah, that might just be your own!
Oh, so you’re standing in the front of the queue now after going to the bathroom? Yes, it really is a long walk back to where you were standing earlier. We must spare you all that exertion. Meanwhile, please tell us another anecdote of how you’re a doctor and always try your best to rid the (our) society of wrong practices.
Your way is indeed the right one, madam. You have the right of way as well. I salute you.
And in case you were wondering, waiting fifteen more minutes didn’t kill us.
